American Sign Language
Semester One
ASL 101
Fundamentals of American Sign Language. Participants will gain mastery of the manual alphabet and learn foundational skills related to visual-gestural communication techniques, spatial awareness, parameters of a sign, and basic facial grammar.

Semester Two
ASL 102
Vocabulary building and expansion. Students will gain competence in asking basic questions and giving simple commands through describing their environment, physical attributes, and common feelings. Introduction to the utilization of the body and signing space as a means to express time, distance, and sequencing.
Semester Three
ASL 201
Structural competencies. This course will add more complex ASL grammatical features including role shift, pluralization, and temporal modifications. Students will be able to form simple sentences with accurate facial grammar and minimal hesitation or interruption.

Semester Four
ASL 202
Narrative fluidity. Participants will gain an understanding of the use of rhetoricals, conjunctions, and degree modifiers. Focus on narrative storytelling using knowledge gained regarding time, role shift, and classifiers.
